Marble House
Marble House was built by William Vanderbilt as a 39th birthday gift for his wife, Alva. It became a social and architectural landmark that set the pace for the later transformation of Newport, evolving from a quiet summer colony with wooden houses into the legendary town of luxurious mansions from the Gilded Age.

The bedroom of Alva Vanderbilt (1853–1933) at Marble House in Newport, Rhode Island (1892), showcases a spectacular, French Revival furniture suite crafted by the studio of French furniture maker and designer Jules Allard (1832–1907)
